On 11 September 2018, UN CERF team and IOM Kenya staff and partners for NFIs cluster including UNICEF, World Vision and Samaritan Purse participated in the mandatory Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) interactive session facilitated by IOM Kenya Country Office PSEA focal point, Ms Romina “Beng” Sta.Clara.
The session gathered 12 participants (8 females and 4 males) and learned about key concepts on sexual abuse, exploitation and harassment, IOM related policies on staff conduct and assistance to victims, the 6 core principles and responsibilities of humanitarian workers under the Secretary General’s Bulletin of 2003 on PSEA aided by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) PSEA Task Force video on “To Serve with Pride” (2013 edition), and practical exercises on a case study and various risk scenarios from the IOM PSEA module developed by its Gender Coordination Unit (GCU).
All the participants have not had any previous face-to-face PSEA learning session. Only one had an online PSEA course in the past. The written feedback shared by the partners and IOM staff positively rated the session and proposed a longer session in the future. Another PSEA session is scheduled for the field staff and partners in the coming weeks.
