IOM and Republic of Korea Deliver Life-Saving Assistance to Migrants and Crisis-affected People in Kenya

Nairobi, KenyaAugust 22, 2024, The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Republic of Korea join forces to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance supporting migrants, displaced persons and host communities in Kenya.

With support of the Republic of Korea, IOM will offer prompt, efficient and evidence-informed assistance to those affected by the negative effects of climate change and natural disasters, especially in light of recurring crises like floods, landslides, and droughts, as well as disease outbreaks. The partnership will provide humanitarian assistance to the communities displaced by climate-disasters through cash transfer, shelter, and essential household and hygiene items. In addition, IOM will support the Government of Kenya’s efforts in curbing the spread of Mpox by strengthening the state preparedness and response capacity and, providing necessary health services especially at the points of entry/exit.

This collaboration with the Republic of Korea is timely and critical as Arid and Semi-Arid communities in Kenya are faced with a recurring climate challenge of floods and droughts, which leads to humanitarian crisis including public health emergencies.  IOM is working with the communities to foster more sustainable and effective recovery while addressing their most urgent needs.” Ms. Dimanche Sharon, IOM Kenya Chief of Mission.

IOM Kenya remains dedicated to supporting the Government of Kenya through these challenging times and will continue to work closely with local authorities, civil society, community members, and international partners to promote durable solutions for Kenyans and people on the move in Kenya.
